Why Have An
Inspection:
There are many reasons an inspection should be triggered. Operational malfunction,
installing new appliance, sale of property, chimney fire, earthquake damage, and others. The appropriate level of inspection is based on the reason an inspection is required i.e. It would be inappropriate to do a level I inspection for a property that is in escrow (see levels of inspections link below).
NFPA 211 levels of inspection
Is
the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep Credential Alone Adequate To Inspect?:
“The Certified Chimney Sweep credential provides a minimum knowledge of what is involved with the three levels of inspection. The methods, understanding, documenting and communicating are something that all chimney professionals should pursue to give them a better understanding of how to apply what they are seeing in a meaningful way to their customers along with proper documentation.” Howard Rowell President Chimney Safety Institute of America 6/8/2007
